Code of Conduct
IN SHORT
EMLAR XX 2024 is an intentional workshop that aims to train PhD students and advanced MA students in methods of experimental research in first and second language acquisition. EMLAR XX 2024 recognizes that participants have diverse skills, knowledge, and cultural background, and have therefore set up the following Code of Conduct.
Be respectful of and kind to other people; behave professionally; if you come across disrespectful behavior, contact the organizers (EMLAR2024@uu.nl). We will not tolerate harassment of participants in any form.
Please follow these guidelines:
- EMLAR XX 2024 is an inclusive environment, based on treating all individuals respectfully, regardless of gender (including transgender status), sexual orientation, age, disability, nationality, ethnicity, race, religion (or lack thereof), or career path. Any harassments, i.e., demeaning, discriminatory, or hateful comments, jokes, innuendos, intimidation, behavior, or imagery, on these fronts will not be tolerated.
- All communication should be appropriate for the international nature of this audience:
- Be professional, kind, respectful, constructive, and helpful.
- To encourage inclusivity, all talks, tutorials, and Q&As will be done in English. Be mindful of jargon.
- You are not allowed to share screenshots or recordings of sessions due to the Dutch and EU privacy laws, unless with explicit permission from the speaker.
- Turn off your microphone if you do not have a question during a talk or tutorial. The organizers will reserve the right to mute you if we think you are unmuted by mistake.
CONSEQUENCES
If the organizers determine that a participant is behaving disrespectfully, the organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, up to and including expulsion and exclusion from the event without refund.
